GFEST 2010 Q & A with Lorraine :

What are you doing right now?

Getting really excited about my fifth CD release.  Each CD normally takes about 4-5 years to complete. This one is Suburban Exotica and is a musical homage of new songs on the theme of the out-of-urban experience, living at the end of the line on the South Coast and enjoying charity shopping, steam fairs and the odd 80s revival punk festival.

How do you see your own work?

A  transangenital force of puddings, clean sheets and Julie Christie. In lay man’s terms that’s creating songs on specific themes and getting people to sing along and enjoy themselves.

How relevant is your work  today to be a part of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) or queer art work?

The Brighton Gay Mens Chorus voted me an honorary gay man in the last concert!  I was ever so thrilled!

How do you resource your practice?

Blimey – a few PRS royalties here and there, CD sales and itunes downloads – mainly from my Crumble Song translated into five different languages (the Indian one is the best) and of course my hit song, Julie Christie makes me go Misty, which was in a Canadian film exploring all kinds of sexualities and it’s done well all over the place so I get bits of money in from Northern Europe and Japan.. private parties, shows and festivals all over the place!  It’s rock and roll!  The worst dosh was £0.0007 from Spotify the other week!

How  do you publicise or market your work?

Phew!  It’s a minefield out there.  I do everything myself including ordering the pens to give out with every CD sold.

How would you like yourself to be known?

A transangenital force of crumble puddings, clean sheets and Julie Christie.

Thank you Lorraine and Best wishes from GFEST.
