GFEST 2010 ‘quickfire’ Q & A with Katja :

What are you doing right now?

I am working on some new ideas because I am going back in the studio tomorrow.

Katja von Kassel

How do you look at your own art?

It’s part of my everyday life. I just live it.

How is your work or practice relevant today to be a part of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) or queer art work?

My natural style has no boundaries. I love performing in front of appreciative audiences.

Tell us your reasons for presenting your work as part of GFEST 2010?

I am using pop electro beats mixed with a sultry Marlene Dietrich tone. I want to be part of such an important occasion as GFEST 2010 because I enjoyed the experience so much last year.

Do you see your work as ‘gay or queer art work’?

I don’t feel that in music, identities are gender based. People are people.

How do you resource your practice?

I am just taking day by day.

Katja von Kassel

How well do you publicise or market your work?

I am on myspace, facebook, twitter and I have my own website under my name. We have just filmed a music video “Lies” which I have posted on YouTube.

The next thing I am looking for is support from a record company.

How would you like yourself to be known?

I like to be known as a consistent professional performer who enjoys appearing before a live audience.

How do you see tomorrow’s ‘gay or queer art’ scene?

It is a very strong scene and is growing everyday. It would be good to gain more wide spread recognition.

A single wish?

To make my living performing music.

Thanks Katja and best wishes from GFEST.
