GFEST 2010 Q & A with Rosie :

Rosie Wilby

What are doing right now?

Right now I’m booking in guests and sending out listings for my LGBT radio show Out In South London which airs on Resonance FM on Tuesdays at 6.30p.

How would you describe your Act?

The main purpose is pure entertainment and to make people laugh, but hopefully to think too!

How relevant is your work today as a part of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) or queer art work?

My lesbian identity runs very strongly through my comedy as it did through my music when I was a songwriter.

Tell us about your reasons for presenting your work as part of GFEST 2010:

I’ve done (performed at) GFEST a few times now and its great to be part of a platform of LGBT artists. It’s very different to performing at typical stand up gigs.

Please tell us how is it different, is there ‘Art Vs. Sexuality’ issue?

It’s a theme that is there, but I don’t want to limit to LGBT only audiences. Reaching out and informing the wider community is important.

How do fund your work?

I get paid for my gigs and its becoming just about enough to get by. Funding to develop new ideas and travel to further parts of the UK would be very welcome tho!

How do you publicise your work and would you look for specific support in terms of getting your work out there?

I have a PR and journalistic background so fairly well-versed in sending out press releases. The gay media are really supportive, but its hard to get onto mainstream channels.

How would you like to be known?

A comedian and performer with some integrity and heart – and hopefully funny with it.

How do you see the needs of tomorrow’s ‘gay or queer art’ scene?

Perhaps (it can do with) more mainstream media coverage and support.

A single wish?

I would love to get an LGBT radio show commissioned on a major radio network.
