The time has come. The Call for Submissions is now open for this year’s GFest – gayWise LGBT Arts festival and we want to hear from lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer film-makers, artists, performers and artists who would like to take part.
This year’s festival, which is produced and organised by arts charity Wise Thoughts, will take place 9th – 22nd November and will showcase more than 100 leading and upcoming LGBT and queer artists and other talent from all around the world, across the festival’s three keys strand of visual arts, performance and short films.
We’ve just launched the new GFest 09 website at http://www.gaywisefestival.org.uk, where you can will be able to find details of the latest festival news, other ways for people to get involved and interact with us via social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace.
We are particularly interested in giving a platform to work that is influenced by, inspired by and reflective of the issues and themes affecting the artist’s sexuality as well as LGBT and queer communities. We also want to reflect the diversity of the LGBT and queer communities through the inclusion of participants across sexualities, genders, races, religions and abilities.
It is an open selection process and we will be announcing the selection panel shortly, who will look all of the entries and create a shortlist later in the year. The criteria for short-listing will be artistic excellence, representative of the diversity within the LGBT community, exploring LGBT issues and identities and suitability for the venues
Submissions are invited, via the website and by post, to each of the three keys strands of the festival including: visual arts (2D and 3D work, paintings, prints, photography, sculpture); performance (music, comedy, cabaret, burlesque, spoken word, theatre, dance and physical theatre) and short films.
Go on! Get in touch.
